Hi all, my mum and dads 1950s house is in need of some decorating but they cant afford a pro, so I have taken the week of to do some odd plumbing and decorating jobs around the house.

My question is their hall and landing needs most work I have stripped all the wall paper and there is a few hairline cracks in the plaster I am happy to fill these but what is the best stuff to use that I can get from B&Q?

Also once I have done this what paint do I need to buy before I put the normal paint on or do I just do more layers.

I have read about lining paper but this would be difficult to do down the stairs due to the layout of the house.

Sorry to sound like a plank but have not decorated before
