Hello,
A newbie to this great forum, thanks for a wealth of information.
inevetabely I have a question!! ;)

I will be changing my CU in the near future, I have worked out that I need a 12 way.
Powergen has fitted an isolator between my incoming supply and present, (vert ancient) CU.

My question regarding CU`s on the market is which one!!
I have narrowed my choices so far down to the MK 12 way split load on offer at screwfix for £68.96 with 10 MCB`s and a Hager 12 way unit with 12 MCB`s for £68+ VAT.

Which one should I go for, or anything as good / better?

TIA.

Personally, I don't think there's much to choose between the 2.
However, changing a CU is not just a case of whipping one out and coneecting the other in its place.

whenever I encounter rewireable fuses in domestic premises (daily!) I automatically look out for a number of other things:

Under-sized or missing earthing and bonding
Non-compliant cable entries into fuseboard
Incorrect fuse sizing.
Multiple circuits from each fuseway
Lots of ad-hoc additions to socket circuits
Lack of circuit protective conductors on lighting.
...and lots more...

And that's just the things that you could notice in the first 30 seconds.

A new CU is just not a job suitable for the DIY'er who does not have an above average level of knowledge and very extensive experience.
