high pitch sound

I own a Perodue auto 2003 that has developed a screeching sound from the engine but only when it rains, the sound stops after a couple of miles.
Do you think it will be the fan belt?

yes. It needs tightening (or possibly replacing)

of the various belts under the bonnet, it will be the one driving the alternator, but they might all be worn out.

+2......a heavy electrical load (lights, heated rear window etc) may make the screech prolonged a bit
If you are really unsure, the usual way is to remove the auxiliary belts and then start up....just in case the timing belt is feeling particularly musical.

I have had a good look to day, the belts look new but a 2 or 3 days ago i topped up the oil and some oil went on the engine, i have wiped the belt with rag and now giving it a run to Wiltshire about 60 miles, will take my AA card just in case.
