I am trying to remove an internal door in a 1890's house for stripping and repainting. The door has 2 hinges. I removed all the old paint but cannot find a hinge pin. They look like normal hinges. Any ideas?
Yes, I prefer not to unscrew the hinges but drive the pin out. I cannot see a pin. I am trying to upload some pictures but have not yet found out how to do this on here.
they certainly have a pin, I think the top is probably peened over like a rivet or the head of a nail, for visual neatness. Possibly it will be visible from underneath, or you could file or grind the end off.
I think the easiest thing will be to take the hinge off.
When re-fitting, consider lift-off hinges which will make life easier next time.
