What batteries do these usually take? I've just inherited a gas hob in my house, and found its battery pack under the counter, but theres nothing in it. Just two crimped lugs to it. It also has no cover. Will a hob with battery ignition work if lit with a match? I'm getting shut of it next year hopefully.

Probably model specific. Many years ago when I shared a student house we had a battery powered spark on our cooker which only worked on two rings anyway. A match will work or get one of these

EDIT: I know you are not daft Steve, but I should mention if the rings look or sound like they are burning gas wrong (for example orange flame, flame keeps going out, guests start frothing at the mouth etc.) then get it checked.
