We have just moved into our new house and have hot water but can't get the heating to work. The pump in the airing cupboard is making hardly making any noise, It does get extremely hot though. It is a British gas multihead II pump. Any advice on getting it going would be great. Thanks

If it's been idle for a long time it's probably just stuck.

Turn power to boiler/heating off, remove the large silver screw in the middle of the pump (dribbles hot water).
Look in there with a torch, there are two possible shapes, iirc. Insert something to fit, like a 4-5 mm screwdriver. If there's a small square hole in the end of the pump shaft, that'll do. Try to get the pump shaft turning. As soon as you can get it moving, put screw back and turn power on.

It's likely you won't shift it, in which case you'll have to turn the pump valves off, which opens a can of worms, or drain the system, ditto, or bung the header tank, ditto, then undo the 4 allen bolts, remove the pump head and turn the rotor by hand to free it.

Good luck.

Its been idle for 2 years so a fair amount of time. The whole thing is red hot atm as been hoping it would just start working or something lol. Will give it a go in the morning and hope for a miracle. Just in case..... are pumps easy to change?

The hotter the pump gets the more the metal expands so it won't free itself up, As for how easy is it to replace, answer is how long is a piece of string, Could be 20 mins could be hours of grief, best of luck

Whoop!! i took the black cover off and unscrewed the little bolt type thing. cleaned a whole load of black gunk off it, switched it on and now have a working pump again. at first it was a bit loud and was rattling but now has a low hum. :D thanks for the help
