Hot water working, but heating will not come on - glow-worm

Hi, the hot water comes on. But the central heating will not work. I have taken the unit apart and pulled the leads of the thermostat and put them together (does that override the thermo) and still nothing. All connections look ok. It is a glow worm fuelsaver 55-60b. The control box in the wall has a red light on it when I switch the central heating on.

Could it be the solenoid and is that the thing that the wires from the thermostat and transformer go to.

Also, when I have the hot water on all the radiators become hot. This does not last long as the hot water soon warms up, but why is that.

Any help would be great. Before I call in the plumber

Have you a 3 port zone valve or 2 2 port valves? Check the heating 2 port head or the 3 port head.
