Hotpoint outer seal retainer clip

Hi,

I've changed the seal/gasket on our Hotpoint WD64S washer/dryer. Everything has gone smoothly apart from the final stage...the outer retainer clip. All the videos etc i've found have a spring type, ours has a clip type fastening (see pics). Does anyone know the method for securing it again? I can't get the wire to meet so I can get the clip locked in, but if I have got it to meet the clip just shoots off, nothing seems to secure it. In the middle of the pic there is something that looks like it should secure the clip buts its loose and doesn't seem to fit in the hole.

Can anyone help me? Thanks
