We have had a Myson Housewarmer 55 Electronic back boiler for around 10 years, running on LPG.

This unit has never been perfect, it has always had the same annoying little fault.

From cold the ignition never fails to fire-up the boiler. and heat the HW/CH. The problem only starts when the unit is warm. Once it moves to cycle mode after it's been running for maybe 20 mins, the ignition starts, the pilot lights, burns for 10 seconds, then goes out, (without firing the boiler), it can do this maybe 6 - 10 times before the main boiler is successfully lit. It always manages to eventually light the boiler before reaching lock-out.

The constant click-click-click when trying to watch TV is really annoying, however I have discovered that a swift blow of air across the pilot, works every time, and the boiler immediately fires, suggesting that the fault must be quite small.

It has been serviced by various Corgi Engineers at least once per year (sometimes twice), we even had a Potterton Myson specialist come out to it in the first year who replaced numerous different components, in an attempt to cure this on-going problem.

Unfortunately non of these "experts" have ever managed to cure the problem, mainly because after they have worked on it, it will fire up great (because it is cold), and they consider it's fixed, but before they are 5 miles down the road the clicking has returned.

To be fair, it has always managed to heat the water.

It would be nice to be able to point the next engineer in the right direction.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Ask the next engineer to stay for half an hour when he's finished servicing the appliance, get your missus to put the kettle on and get the choccie biccies out! :D

THE SOLUTION

The problem is now fixed, I ended up doing the repair myself.

The pilot injector needed replacing because it was partially blocked, plus it also needed a new spark electrode and cable, (the cable was especially poor).

Both of these items still half worked before, resulting in the boiler firing when cold, but once the new parts were fitted, it fires up first time every time, regardless of whether it's hot or cold.

I hope this information proves useful.
