I've just removed the dreaded polystyrene? tiles from my bedroom ceiling but can't paint it properly as it just bubbles up. I've scraped off the thick patches of glue but it still won't paint properly (using textured paint to cover the imperfections).
Will wall paper paste stick to it as I may just paper the ceiling instead if you think it will take.

i would have thought paper will be worse, show all the imperfections, i would suggest new ceiling or skim. :(

I was thinking more of blown paper so that it covers up well (assuming it sticks) as I was advised that a skim wouldn't stick and the only way to plaster it was by boarding it first.

Rubbish ,I've just had a guy skim my bathroom ceiling after I took down the horrible polystyrene tiles.

I took the tiles down from a ceiling last year, and did get all the glue off.
Tedious, and neck aching, but I have done worse jobs. I suggest you perserve with trying to remove the glue. I got most of it off with a scraper.

Tiles are often criticised now. But years ago, everyone was putting them up, they were very fashionable. So was linoleum, fablon etc, and I remember when red seemed to be the obligatory colour in kitchens.

You mentioned glue?....it is possible that the tiles were stuck up woth wallpaper adhesive, ive done it myself....and its far easier.

If the paint is bubbling as you say then id suspect this is the case.....it shouldnt bubble if you paint it over the normal plaster based adhesive thats normally associated with those tiles.

MODERATORS....WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO ADD PICTURES EASILY!

it would make diagnosis far easier.
