I want to get my alarm working after it has been disconnected for the last four years due to extensive refurbishment, and before I reconnect the mains power I would be grateful for a bit of advice on a few points i`m unsure about:
a) The system had 2 pir`s and 1 mag switch. The mag switch is`nt needed any more as it was on a dodgy door that has since been replaced. The cable is still connected to the control box but how do I terminate this cable to make it in-operable or not give any probs?
b) The backup battery was new in 2005. Would it still be usable? Is there also a battery in the external sounder that might need replacing?
The system is a Gardiner Gardtech 360/580.
Apologies if this post is on the long side. If i`ve missed any necessary info for the informed please let me know.

Well, as you ask.

IT NEEDS THE DOOR CONTACT believe it or not.
Mag Switch to you.

Batteries are changed from 3 to 5 years generally so NO ITS DEAD especially after 4 years unconnected.

What make is the panel?
What external sounders are fitted and, YES they need new batteries too.
4 year refurb, big property.....I assume and you want to skimp on security?

If i missed anything, ask.

PPS you have changed all the locks after this 4 yr refurb as you have no idea who now have keys .................. Do you.

~PPS

Ask by all means

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the delayed response.
I havent had a chance to reply as I work unpredictable hours in the winter. The colder it gets the more my hours are topsy-turvy.

I moved into my bungalow five years ago and have been doing it up bit by bit, mainly myself alongside working for a living with help from friends and neighbours when needed.
I have no major concern over property security due to my pal Butch, my belgian shepherd, and living in a part of the country that has the second lowest crime rate nationally, along with taking sensible precautions.

The main panel has`nt got any names on or in it but the user instruction manual left by the installers in 2001 is for a GARDTEC 360/580 system. The system consists of, the control box, a keypad, internal sounder, external sounder, two pir`s and as said the now disconnected contact/mag switch.
If this needs reconnecting can I reconnect without having to actually run cable around the property and fixing the switch to a door?

I`ve found a new control box battery online same as existing one but I can`t find one for the external sounder. Do you know where I can get one?

Grateful for any further advice anyone can offer.

you will need to run a new cable from the control panel, not the keypad to the front (final) door and fit a door contact.

battery wise a 3.2 amp hour will do it

external bell (siren) unit battery, well if it is old and tired, just change the box for new shiny one, or get a new battery from any good security supply company

you will be looking for either a 6vold NMH or a 7.2 NMH

Hope this helps
