Hi Guys

I have a beech work top that her indoors wants re-furbishing which is a simple enough job with a belt sander and a detail sander????. Question is how do I remove the built up oil so it doesn't block the sander I got a belt cleaning block but spent more time un clogging the belt than sanding the top

any suggestions short of replacing the tops would be appreciated

Try using lower grit number say 40 grit and working through the grades to
say 120 grit, using a randem orbit sander, not a finishing or orbital sander or a scraper or scraper plane but you will need a craftsperson to direct you with sharpening and use of the latter.

Wire wool and white spirit is a good start.

The traditional way to remove surface finishes on hardwoods was to use a cabinet scraper. Less effort than steel wool

you can try washing it with a dish washing soap and a steel wool and a lot of effort . :)
