I'm looking into adding soundproof panels to the wall between me and my neighbours (it's about two layers of bricks I think, and can hear the neighbours tv when they have it at normal volume). The house seems a fairly standard 60s residential terrace.

The panels I'm looking at weigh 20-30 kg per square metre, to do all the walls I'd like to do will add up to around 1500kg added to the house, with 500kg hanging off two walls.

Where/why do the panels hang off the wall, as opposed to resting on floor?

As I understand it the acoustic gap is between the (new) insulating wall and the party wall i.e. there is a gap, unless your neighbour is below you?

My missus must have at least 1.5 tonne in clothes and shoes in the wardrobe, no probs on the wall loading. (y) :cautious:

Standard 12.5mm plaster board is about 10kg a SQM.

ok, so sounds like the traditional method itself of a stud wall and two layers of acoustic plasterboard would be a similar weight anyway (just on the floor instead of hanging on the walls). I guess I don't need to worry.
