how to measure a bath for size at the bottom?

I need to get a new bath that is larger at the bottom than my current one. I'm not sure how to go about measuring as the bottom is rounded. Also when I come to choose a new one will a straight sided bath be more or less the same width all the way down, apart from a slight rounding at the bottom.

I've looked at some bathroom catalogues but can't see any that show internal dimensions.

I hope this makes sense. Grateful for any advice.
