Ideal Istor cylinder thermistor

Hi

Can somebody explain the function of the thermistor on the unvented cylinder on this model and what symptoms would be seen if this fell out or had failed?

Its a temperature sensor.

If it fell out then the system would continue to heat the cylinder when it was already up to the set temperature.

If its failed that would all depend on the type of failure, OC, SC or just wrong resistance.

When engineer last out this got knocked out and although he put it back in it looks to me like the cylinder is overheating - the insulation is puckering/melting a bit....

thoughts?
