Hi,

I am looking to insulate floor walls & ceiling of a small garden building.

The acoustic properties are more important than the thermal ones. I know that for the best acoustic insulation you need mass and to restrict the air flow.

I am obviously looking for the most cost effective way to do the job, and will consider reclaimed or recycled materials too.

Thanks!

So I have worked out for myself that what I need is rockwool.

Now to see if I can find some on the cheap :)

Play guitar/drums by any chance? Budget for a couple of layers of plasterboard too. Even then it's only gonna be a basic soundproofing job.
Lots of insulation on ebay, people always have a bit left over.

Yes, I have an ebay search running for surplus/recycled rockwool panels now :)

Floor, walls and ceiling will only cost about £200 from new slabs, so there is always that option.

No drums or guitar, just a garden office. Perhaps a little bit of radio, tv and telephone activity.

Near perimeter, and don't want to have too much noise leaking out advertising the fact it's not a tool shed.

What would it matter if the neighbours thought it was a garden office?

No, it's not the neighbours I'm worried about. There is one of those damned paths between our back garden and the rear of our adjoining neighbors. We have had burglaries in the street, including people's summer houses being raided. These paths make the neighbourhood like a rabbit warren for would be thieves.
