Hello,

I moved into my new place recently which has a IKON23T combi boiler, and everything has been fine for the last few months.

the heating is fine but lately the "Hotwater" has not been coming through...

The domestic water boiler use to fire up after approx one half-turn of the tap and the water temp was good.

Now the water is not hot and the domestic water boiler doesn't fire up until the tap is 3/4 opened at which rate the water is flowing so fast the boiler can't heat the water quick enough.

Boiler pressure is good (between 1 & 2), and like i said the heating is fine.

Any ideas?

Diverter valve failed!

Tony

Hi Tony thanks for the feedback, any ideas on cost of replacement part, where to find one and rough cost of fitting approx.

I've done some research and Ikon's 23 & 28T's seem to be a pain for maintenance.

Cheers

Si

In our local area we still charge £106 but that does not reflect the considerable difficulty of doing the repair.

The last one I went to had been failed for some times and the manifold section had jammed. The boiler was in a cupboard and there was no access to remove the diverter so I had to treat it in situ with chemicals.

If I recall rightly, the ICON was a Travis Perkins only combi - see them first. I think Glow Worm did the servicing via Heatcall.

It had a stainless steel heat exchanger and was well specced and well priced for the time - about 8 to 10 years ago.

Tony - £106 for labour?

What about the part?

Bigburner - You do recall rightly, i have been searching forums etc. looking for information and this does indeed seem to be the case.

I know this is a fairly old boiler, just weighing up if it should be replaced or fixed.

Thats an inclusive charge to repair but it is far too low for the work usually required unless the boiler is right out in the open on a flat wall.

All the ones I have seen have a copper heat exchanger!

They are a cheap but OK boiler when they are working. About 1995/8 I would expect.

I'm not looking to be in the place for longer than 1 year 1/2.

Can you recommend a reputable company or person that could carry out the repair for that approximate price?

Si

Many others charge higher prices! As I said our price does not reflect the difficulties of working on your model.

You would have to find someone and then ask for a fixed price repair. british Gas charge about £200 and may not want to work on your model!

OK i'll have a scout about,

I know a few people in the trade, will see if i can call in a favour or 5!

Thanks for all your help,

much appreciated.

You can get spares through city plumbing, boiler was originally a Hermann AFAIK touch one thing inside and watch the whole thing leak, nasty, nasty
