I want to install a dimmer switch to control a single light fitting. The dimmer switch has the following connections:

L1, L2 and a wavy line (~) with an arrow running through it -as well as Earth.

The wires coming out of the wall are:

- Green/Yellow (which we know is Earth)
- Brown
- Blue (with a Brown sleeve around it)

Is the following wiring correct?

- Earth to Earth.
- Brown to L1
- Blue (with Brown sleeve) to ~

If not, can someone please help and advise.

Many thanks

Now I am indeed confused 333rocky333! Are you agreeing with my response (even though it may be overcautious) or disagreeing with jj4091?

As it is AC and a single way it won't matter which way around the live and switch live are connected, as long as one connects to the ~ and the other to either L1 or L2.

my reply to rocky must have crossed with your clarifcation.

cheers

Now I am indeed confused

I apoligise

As sparks says It should make no difference
However I was asking why he said that, as I personally thought YOU were correct
L1 or L2 are usually used as Live, only both if Two Way
~ is used as the variable output to the lamp
I assume the instructions show this and is how you came to that

Unless I am mistaken ,
With Twin and Earth wiring
The brown would be the LIVE
and the
Blue (sleeved brown ) would be the output to the lamp
This is the most likely unless you was on site to test it and prove otherwise
Anyway with MOST dimmers it does not matter:cool:
