Evening everyone.
I'm currently trying to install a log burner myself. Please feel free to offer me any advice, I have a few questions at the bottom.

I'm currently removing the plaster board to reveal the builders opening and I'll chip out the old fire back. It's a 2nd floor room (servants lived up here in the Victorian days) so I've discovered the downstairs fireplaces took priority being centralized and this one appears to have been built to the left off center to leave space for the below 2 floors flues.

My question is, looking at my chimney is this a cap or cover? I'm not tall enough to peer over the top and the roof ridge is so steep I'm scared to climb the chimney stack for a closer inspection. The next stage will b to install a liner and a pot hanging cowl.

Any advice on the process would be appreciated.

Then how can you get to the top of the stack to fit the liner securely.

The best advice is that you employ a HETAS registered installer to carry out the work.

And then your house insurance will not be questioned,

Your chimney pots have baloons in, so I don't understand your question...
But you've seen the usual info sites about how to install your liner, right?

Sorry I wasn't clear.
Chimney sweeps been today, he said it's capped with a pepperpot. How do I remove these please? Thanks again for the kind help everyone.

Off a scaffold - and then install a pot of similar height to the existing ones. Shame the pots were removed and the ventilators replaced them.

Thanks Nige, yes ... cow boy builders pefroming a "grant" for the previous old lady owner. They completely robbed her blind, removed the victorian tiles and concreted some floors! removed cast iron gutters for sh!77y plastic defective ones, and ofcourse, some original pots... It's a shame people ruin period properties for personal greed.

Thanks.
