Installing a new telephone jack

Hi i am attempting to install a new telephone jack.

the cable has 8 wires inside they are

solid light blue
striped blue

solid orange
striped orange

solid light green
striped green

solid light brown
striped brown

the phone jack has 6 connections they are
red
dark blue
white
yellow
dark brown
dark green

any advice on what wires from the cable go where in the jack please

I will give it a go anyway and see what happens.

I went to the spanish equivalent of B & Q today and they have a different telephone jack on that on it has the following letters

T
L2
L1
2
TS
TX
I know i am in spain but do you or anyone else on the forum know what colours would correspond to which letter/number

again i have
light blue
white with blue band
orange
white with orange band
green
white with green band
brown
white with brown band

any help would be appreciated and thank you for the reply

Dave...not sure about the spanish wiring/connections but it will work if you connect the same coulours on your wiring to the same ports on the slave and the master socket..in the uk the only 3 ports you need are 2,5 and 3

Probably only needs 2 wires.

Do you have "RJ11" sockets there - Wikipedia says you do ?
The phone line will be on the middle two contacts of the plug, most likely also the middle two terminals.

So most likely all you need is one pair of wires (by convention, the blue pair is the first) using the same terminals on the existing socket and the new one. You'll have 3 pairs left over (orange, green, and brown) - just coil up the spare in case you ever need it and tuck it away inside the box.
