Good call - on closer inspection there are two 2c+e coming in and one 3c+e going out - you can't see the 3rd red wire on the picture its hidden behind the others, and the two CPCs from the 2c+e wires are in a single sheath. I suspect the other 2c+e is going to the burglar alarm as that's on the same circuit.
Doing it correctly requires a dry liner box in the ceiling, and the smoke alarm fixed to that instead, just shoving the chock block into the gap is bad practice.
