I am fitting a new interior door frame and have removed the old one. The problem is that I have measured the depth of the opening and it ranges from 130mm to 135mm. Looking at the old frames they were all 130 and any gaps were filled which when painted meant that this did not show. The problem I have is that I am going for the natural look and do not want to paint the frames but stain/wax the natural wood instead??

My second problem is that I am fitting old English style latch doors and ideally do not want to cut notches out of the frames that I install. Can anyone suggest a frame style that could solve this problem??

Thankyou very much for any help.

Buy your timber wider than the max width of the frame and fit. Then use a router with a flush trimming bit to follow the profile of the wall. You can then fit the architrave.
