Apologies if this has been asked before, I did search and couldn't find the answer. I had an internal wall removed between two rooms with floorboards. Now I have a 4-6 inch gap running perpendicular to the boards in the middle of the new room which has a line of bricks running slightly lower than the height of the boards.

Short term I dropped a 2 metre length of wood along the 4-6 inch gap and put a large rug over, but now I want to get the boards stained and oiled so this would look rubbish.

Is what I want to do pull up every board and and bridge the gap, a different end of the room for each board so as to stagger it, and take some of the old floorboard from the loft to plug the gaps at each end of the room?

I may even have enough board under the skirting at each end to bridge the gap, but I doubt it, has anyone done this before and got any advice or a much better, simpler way of doing it? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.
