Just wanted to say hi, I jumped in to this forum the other day, just because a question was there that I wanted to answer, without saying hi to the regulars, so thought I would double back and introduce myself.
Anyway, my name is Cait Whitson, I'm based in central Scotland, been a painter and decorator for too many years (specialise now), love the trade and am a member of a number of boards.
I have been a regular on a U.S. forum for years and now joining a few UK ones as I find them...there were very few around when I first got onto the web. Looking forward to meeting you all here, exchanging a few ideas and generally chatting about painty stuff.

Cheers Linda for redirecting the post. Since I mainly post to decorating stuff, I thought I was doing the right thing posting it in the P&D section...as I said, a wee bit different from what I'm used to...

Hello CAIT....

Im Zampa, 27 years in the game covering most aspects (managed to avoid industrial work though) taken a sideways step now and moved into Lecturing.
Excellent samples of work on your web site btw...can you refer me to any anerican forums?...im interested in how things are done over there.

think they still use a brush over there zampa, but knowing the yanks you probably have to plug it in and boot up the computer on board so it paints the right surface. mind you i think they have had a few problems with brushes mis identifying the woodwork and painting the walls with gloss by mistake.

Hi Zampa, nice to meet you. I do a bit of lecturing too, but just on a visiting lecturer basis as far as the colleges are concerned. I love it but like being on the tools too much to go for it full time I have recently been made a member of the SAPCT despite the fact that I'm not a full time lecturer, which I was very pleased about. Do you attend any of the national APCT events?

Thanks for the kind comments about the site. We're in the process of building a better one...that one is very amateur, because it was done by me and never finished.

I hope I'm allowed to post other sites here, I couldn't quite work out from the rules whether it was OK, but the board I'm most often on is Muralsplus but it's really mainly what the Americans call "faux" (decorative painting) and murals, although a good many straight painting Q's come up. There are some good message boards run by the PDCA (Painting and Decorating Contractors of America)...but they can be a bit bickery so I don't go there now. If you Google both you should find them OK.

Not bad going Cait. 5 posts and you've already pulled a Mod...

HI CAIT
are you female ? with that name or is it a male name , just being nosey :)

Hey Moz, female...just a pretentious spelling. It's actually Gaelic but I don't know more than about 5 words of Gaelic and 3 of those are swear words...long boring story, it started as a joke and the spelling stuck.

Ive tried making contact with American contractors just to get an angle on the scene over there, especially the training situation.....no luck yet though

This a good site..enjoyable, although you do get a few on here just out to chat people up...no names no pack drill but theres one in particular to be mindfull of...It wouldnt be fair to tell you his name but it begins with M and ends in Z..

I see the thing with your name now..didnt notice before, thanks for restoring my faith in 'pretentious arty types'. ;)

welcome paintycait.

Hey I didnt know moddy was a lady

Zampa,
I'm in touch with a number of contractors over there and to be honest it's much the same as here...more sales driven in the larger firms of domestic painters. Training for Union shops is again much the same as here, possibly better in some respects, possibly worse in others. Much of the workforce is not Union, but then it's a bit like the SDF/PDA and the CITB here...some are, some aren't.

Lynda,
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, you directed me to one of the rules...I hadn't intended to adjust my post but to answer your point, but fair enough. Someone then deleted 2 of my posts that didn't seem to break the rules as far as I could see. You then reiterated your point by making the words big, bold type. Do you want me to make one post with all my points to people in that, OK, I was answering posts individually, but if you want me to combine them fine.
I am trying to be a polite new member, introducing myself, I'm not breaking any rules that I can see, if you don't want me to do something, then let me know.....what's the story????? I'm at a loss to understand what I'm doing wrong other than basic mistakes as a newbie on an unfamiliar board.

I shall explain, as you have done with the post i have quoted you from, you have made notes to two people, Zampa and myself. That is fine and how it should be done (if you look through the forum quite a few others do it this way too i.e ban-all-sheds, he does it quite a lot)

Rule 10a does say if you see +++++++++++++++
that means a moderator has edited and corrected your post. I made the "please note" bigger in the previous post, as i felt you were ignoring it, your email address is not in your profile (so i could not email you)
You did ignore the rules, despite the fact i posted a link to rule 10a.
So yes it was me who deleted your posts.

Welcome to the forums, and i trust this clears it up for you :)

Lynda,
Sorry but I did not ignore a rule but misunderstood it...the rule you referred me to was about altering posts -
"10a) If you have just posted, and wish to add something to your post, please do not post again, but press the button, you can then add / edit your post.

if you see ++++++++++++++++++

This indicates a moderator has copy / pasted a post"

It says nothing about answering posts in one bulk format...
...as I said, I had no intention of altering my post. I now understand that I should bulk reply to posts but am still unsure why you deleted my posts...there was nothing offensive in them, nothing deregoatory, there were no swear words, no nothing....in fact the posts I responded to were more derogatory than my replies.
My private email address was always in my profile but I chose not to show it publicly, I have now shown it publicly and it shall remain so briefly.
I currently have been made to feel welcome by your posters, but not by you. If it isn't usual for people to introduce themselves and ease themselves into this forum, then I apologise for breaking the mould.
