Hi i have just managed to rent my sisters house out for her and I was told by a friend that i have to do an inventory to secure the deposit that we recieved. Just wanted to know does anyone know how its done. Can I do it myself or do i need to pay a company to come and do the inventory. thanks.

do it yourself.

Once done you sign it, and give a copy to the renters, and have them agree and sign it.

Then, when the vacate, check it. if anything missing damage, deduct from deposit.

Just go into word or excel, make the following colums

Room, Item, Quantity, etc etc

Do your own inventory - its just a list of things in each room.

You may also like to note any significant damage or wear and tear to the fixed items and structure - torn paper, dent in door, chipped skirting etc.
 
thank you everyone i really appreciate the help will do it myself as the estate agent was trying to charge me £129 just to do it.
