Is it safe to live with exposed RSJs

In the UK, any exposed RSJ must normally be covered in fire resistant cladding, traditionally plasterboard, or similar building board of equal fire resistance. The number and thickness of layers can be determined by looking up "Approved Document Part B Fire Safety - Residential premises" freely on the Local authority Building Control Websites.
