kitchen ceiling

at the moment i have a large kitchen / dining room with a artex ceiling with a heavy pattern in it . What i would like to do is have ceiling returned back to a smooth ceiling and fit down lights fitted in ceiling
what would be the best process for a plastering to following
any help would be appreciated

Make sure the artex is sound, knock off high spots if any,, coat ceiling with pva, while still tacky apply tight coat/s of bonding plaster if pattern is deep,, let it set,, followed by 2 coats of multi finish.
