Hi. We have a new kitchen tap which has excellent flow of hot water but the cold blasts out, as if there's lots of air coming out with it, and it sprays out to the sides instead of coming out as a jet. Is it the tap? Or is there something weird about the water supply?

Thanks.

You haven't really given any information about the tap, but if it's a mixer with a spout, then try removing the aerator to check for debris. You might find that there was an alternative aerator supplied with the tap.

Failing that, do as Bahco suggested and turn down the isolating valve on the cold supply to this tap.

Hi Bahco, and the very same to you and yours. :)

The thing is that it sprays water everywhere even when it's only on gently. It just comes out the tap messily.

It's a mixer and the hot water comes out beautifully.

can you take the nozzle off or the whole arm (sometimes a grub screw round the back of the tap)?

inspect this - could be a blockage behind the nozzle which can be poked loose with a paperclip or similar before reverse flushing it at another tap, or possible the nozzle itself is cracked.

the hot water will be directed through a concentric pipe inside this arm, through another part of the nozzle, and is thus independent of what the cold water is doing.
