Kitchen taps water flow

The hot water flow from my kitchen mixer tap has suddenly gone from being fine to nearly nothing.
The hot water will run for about 5 seconds then will quickly slow down and stop. After a couple of minutes, it will trickle out again but only for a 2 or 3 seconds.
The cold water is fine.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Could need a new washer.
If possible change the 2 tap valves around first which will confirm whether it is a tap / washer or supply problem
Failing that you have an air lock.
