Kitchen tiles

As I am fitting a cooker hood and splash back I have decided to tile from the kitchen surface upwards maybe to the wall units which are 560mm above the surface.

No idea on styles, simple white/off white is easier to clean than fancy designs I guess.

I guess the painted plasterboard has to be scored prior to adhesive?

Scoring or sanding would give you a good key, they will also require priming.
Generally a diluted PVA will do or the more expensive option a dedicate tile primer.
