I am replacing my kitchen worktops and retiling around them. I have a couple of questions:

* Tiling behind the worktops -- Is this recommended? It would provide a flat surface to fit the worktop against. On the other hand, all the kitchen brochures seem to start tiling from the worktop upwards.
* Sequence of work. Do all the messy tiling fand painting irst. Then fit the worktop?
Thanks
Mike

Its normal to fit your worktop to the wall first, as any discrepancies you have will then be hidden by your tiles.

It also looks better if you start with a full tile on top of your worktop.

I always leave a gap of 3.0 m/m from the worktop to the first line of tiles, which can then be siliconed to provide a good waterproof seal. Others use grout, but I don,t believe it is flexible enough for a worktop seal.
