Hi

I am about to purchase tiles for the kitchen and the wife wants mainly off-white with an accent of beige. We don't want anything as regimented as a chequerboard pattern, merely the odd beige one...

What sort of ratio should I go for. The wife thinks 75/25 but I think even that might be too many...

The most common for pattern is 10%. Lay some tiles on the floor 1m2 and see what it looks like. I think 75/25 is far too much but does depends on the colour etc..

when we had our kitchen tiled we just told the tiler put them "at random" so he did, i would suggest 5% but isnt it going to look odd if they are just a differnt colour? patterned would be better?

Id say change the colour biege  , or the wife which ever is easier. ;)
