can any one advise on the following
i am having a few sockets removed from kitchen and 2 new ones repositioned.cooker switch moved along same wall 2feet,and some halogen lights in celing
i have been given a quote by electrician (a bit steep in my opinion)but he said quote if you want to go legit you will need to notofy the council and he will need to issue a certificate for another £100
my question is why another £100 for a bit of paper is this normal practice as he will be doing the work
why do i need to tell the council as i thought that if the electrician was registered that was ok
is he mugging me off
thanks

A registered electrician would be able to notify the council for less than you would pay. Sounds like he is not registered. All work in kitchens and bathrooms is notifiable.

some of us don't do enough domestic stuff to make it worth paying the £600 a year fees to register as part P, so we have to go down the "notify it yourself" route with customers..
depending on the LABC, they might give a discounted price on notification if a qualified but not registered sparky is doing the work.
he should issue a test cretificate regardless of whether you decide to do it legit or not.. it's not his fault if you don't take care of the legal side of things.
