From 0.4 of the guidance document for part p (downloadable from here: clicky)"As a guide only, in open plan areas the zone of a kitchen may be considered to extend from the edge of the sink to a distance of 3m or to a nearer dividing wall."
I'll bet there's no guidance on what constitutes a "dividing wall" is there....
My new open-plan kitchen diner (if it ever happens a pox on the recession and the new planning laws) will have a sink <3m from both side walls of the house.
But it will have a stud wall behind it, extending to about 300mm above the sink.
Sounds like a dividing wall to me.
Not that it matters, really, as the building works will have to be notified anyway.
