hello all..
I had a problem with the starter with a delay (about a second) in disengaging from the flywheel ring gear.
Lubricated the pinion as suggested, but it still occasionally still does it.
Is a new starter motor needed before it knacks up the ring gear?

If you are confident that the ignition switch is operating correctly then the answer is yes to another starter motor (cheaper than a ring gear).

Hello johnny.. the way I checked the switch was by connecting the starter connection to a 12v bulb, and watched it as i turned the key loads of times and it went out quick enough... not sure if there's a more reliable way.

hello neo, It's an X reg. clio

HI.
You could try cleaning it again, I personally would go for a reconditioned starter or a second hand one from a breakers yard.
