knocking a window in the gable end.

Having recently converted a loft/ dayroom well actually a music studio/ guitar storage area, i want to knock a window in the gable end of my house. do i need planning permision or can i just do it under a building notice?

As you are altering the apperance of the outside of the house you will almost certainly need PP; ring the council & ask! I recently fitted 2 new windows in a rear facing gable wall & these were approved along with other alterations. You should get BC to inspect the openings & lintels before fitting the windows & if using a DG firm to fit, make sure they are FENSA registered & you get the paperwork otherwise you will have to get BC to inspect & pass the window installation as well at additional cost.
