looks like a run of the mill kitchen fitters install. this stuff used to suprise me at first when i started out, now it is more suprising to find stuff done correctly
In my last house I found a 'live' gas pipe feeding the boiler upstairs in a similar position.
From behind the hob at worktop height, buried in the plaster, it ran at approximately 45 degrees into the top corner before dissappearing into the ceiling.
God knows where it went after that, I was scared to look!
