I’ve changed my laptop and I’ve now got a brand new copy of windows xp.
The windows media player that comes with this will not play any DVD’s  unlike my old now defunct computer. It directs me to the MSN and asks me to buy the upgrade.
Is there a decent free dvd player or patch for the media player available to download
;)

Are you trying to play DVD from different regions? If this is the case you usually have about 5 goes at changing it until it is fixed on the last region.

Have you tried updating your Media player?

There is loads of free DVD player software out there (just google) but beware of the ad/spyware and the nag screens that are part of these freebies!

media player is fully up to date and its any dvd. I've tried differant regions but no joy.

Windows doesn't include a free codec for playing DVDs, you need to acquire one separately.
