Why does no grass grow under my trees. Someone i know said the trees were `probably` taking all the nutrients from the soil.

Also my dog has tramped a portion of the garden and has made it bare and ugly looking. Hes not relocated to another part until i try and repair the damage hes done.

How do i turn a patchy garden into a nice green lawn?

Any links or books you suggest would be appreciated.

youre grass will struggle to grow under a tree because it is shady and grass doesnt like it. it also fights for the light with other stronger plants such as moss. You can get shade tolerant grass, but it is more expensive. otherwise you will always be on to a loser.

the bare patches of lawn caused by your dog are probably a result of its urine, which kills the grass off. the only solution is to dig out the affected areas including the topsoil and replace it.

good books lawn expert by Dr D G Hessayon only about 4-5 pounds from most book shops, very helpful and easy to understand.
