Can you successfully lay laminate flooring on floorboards in a first floor bedroom. I an concerned about both the noise when walking on it and the spring in the floorboards. Anyone with any experiences of this? :)

I think it is recommended to lay the new floor at 90 degrees to the old one - you could also lay an intermediate layer of foam or whatever the flooring company suggest to even out small imperfections. Be careful of laying a floor over boards that may need to come up for access to pipes/electrics etc in the future.
I was going to lay a similar floor on boards but eventually sanded up the existing boards - in my opinion they look better than the "too perfect" finish of laminate.
