the radiator in the bedroom is leaking, I have got a new air valve as I thought that was the problem but on closer inspection the fitting has corroded. Can I patch it up or is it a new radiator I will need?

The bleed fitting is usually brass.

Its usually the steel surounding part of the rad which has corroded.

However, its often possible to make a water tight seal with a new brass fitting although some skill is often need in using the right jointing material.

Anyway a new rad is usually no more costly to buy than a weekly tankfull of petrol.

The bleed fitting is uaually brass.

i think you will find they are very rarely brass.

a replacement may well be.

there is no point generalising on the cost of a new radiator.

I agree. I ain't seen many rad valves made of brass(don't think I've seen any) and, Ive fitted one or two in my time.
