Leather sofa stain.

Hi all
I've just bought a leather sofa that has a fairly large stain on one of the cushions.
I don't get the thing until Friday so can't post a photo yet.
It's a dark stain on tan leather and I can't 'feel' the stain as I think whatever was spilled onto the cushion has been absorbed into it.
Do any of you know of a product that may remove the stain or are there any secret tricks that'd help?
Do I have to know what made the stain in order to tackle it?

I don't have any experience with this type of thing, but on car programmes they often 'paint' leather seats.

If its a cheaper suite the cushions are sewn in [one sided].

A £6,000 suite for £1,500 seemed like too good an offer to turn down as it's exactly what we were looking for and the quality of the leather is just gorgeous, albeit with a stain on one of the seat cushions.
