Letter plate fitting - HELP!

I stupidly took a casual approach to cutting the opening for the letter plate aperture and only when it was too late did I realise that the bolts to hold the letter plate in place are held at a stupidly close line to the aperture. The bolts basically go through the opening I've cut in the door!

Apart from finding a wider letter plate to try and overcome the width problem, does anyone have a clever solution to the above?

Make the hole smaller with some trim strips. Always remember, measure twice and cut once

If you got 2 strips of wood or metal, fix them to the door on the inside, you could drill the holes for the bolts. You could also fix blocks of wood to the cut out you have already made & then drill through that.
But it would probably be easier if you could find a letterbox with a bigger aperture.
