Hi,

I need some loft hatch advice. When we moved in 20 years ago some company called Artisan lofts or similar put the loft hatch on the underside of the wooden surround so you could then pull it down with a metal skewer and the ladder comes down with it. The problem was that the loft hatch or surround expanded with the weather, really tight in winter and too loose in summer. Then one day in winter I pulled a bit too hard and the loft hatch came off and landed on me (not pleasant!).

The current situation is the loft hatch now rests on top of the wooden surrounded which means I have to get a step ladder from the shed to get up to the loft to move the hatch and then pull the ladder down! It's all a bit of a faff in truth. I just want the old way back but with a safe hatch.

I'd really welcome some advice here. Would a 'chippie' do a better job?

TIA

Matt

Do you think the original firm then were less than good? So I just need a decent loft ladder firm to do it this time?

Impossible to say, without determining why it failed.
Just needs competent carpenter or handyman to repair or replace .
