Hi there,
My loft hatch door when opened (downwards) opens very fast and swings. I'd like to find an arm that fits from the hatch opening onto the door that slows down the swing and that restricts the opening of the door as well. I've tried ironmonger suppliers but the options they've given are for drop flap sliding stays for furniture and will not really take the endurance of an opening loft door.

Any suggestions.

the normal practice is to lower gently rather than just let go!!!

any mechanism to damp the movement will just get in the way

the easiest way is a rope pully and weight

or if the ladders behind the trapdoor attach with a bungee cord to the ladder with just enough slack to allow operation of the ladder
