Hi

I was up in loft yesterday i noticed the following, looks like the ridge beam or is it ridge board was 2 separate parts and held together with nails but now one side come lose.

Is this dangerous ? it is load bearing?

to fix it could i just attach a mending plate? as it was originally held together with nails.

here are the pics

If its a ridge beam then you need to do something urgently.. if its a ridge board then there isnt as much to worry about as it will be self supporting.. Chances are its a board and can be plated back together..
But to be on the safe side best get either a decent roofer or SE out to give you some advice..

To repair that I would cut two pieces of ply 18mm by the depth of the ridge and cut the rafters back 18mm on both sides of the split, insert the ply to both sides and bolt together. This will have to be done from the roof
