Log Burner - Oak Beam Placement

Hi
Looking to install a log burner. After opening up a fireplace we'd ideally like the oak beam to site close to the opening but all I can read is that there is a minimum of 3 x flue size.
Is there a way to reduce this and how would it work?

It depends on the log burner you install and if it is back flue'd or top flu'd. BTW your telly is going to be too high, unless you like watching it standing up

Perhaps they'll tilt their heads slightly like folk do in pubs and cinemas....?
