low voltage halogen above a hob - questions

ideally i want a run of 4 LV halogens above a kitchen work surface, however one of the positions is over a hob. The hob doesn't have an extractor but a window right behind it. There's about 1.3m clearance above the hob.

This is ringing alarm bells with me but i don't really know enough about the LV stuff to know whether it will be safe to position one there. The downlighters are die cast tilting ones with 50w bulbs, each fixing will have it's own transformer. The ceiling is plasterboard.

I could move the light toward the front of the hob away from any direct steam (which in theory should be going out the window)

Advice most welcome!
thanks
paul

For hobs, there is an exclusion zone that extends over the hob and a further 50 mm horizontally in every direction along the work surface, and upwards for 760 mm. In this zone, there may be no combustible materials. This usually means there is almost no margin for positioning the hob to avoid the wall cupboards each side. Note that as of autumn 2004 if you fit a 700mm wide hob (usually 5 burner units) then you must have at least 700mm gap or "bridge" in any wall cupboards.

For cookers the zone is 20 mm side clearance on the lower part of the cooker (oven sides) and then 150 mm each side for the top part of the cooker (above the level of the burners and pan supports). The upper zone extends vertically to either 610 mm above the top of the cooker if it has an eye-level grill, or 760 mm if the highest point is the hob burners.

thanks for replying.

oven and hob position im fine, no wall cupboards anywhere in fact. The height to the ceiling is out of the exclusion zone too.

I was just worried about the effects of the odd dose of steam towards the light fittings. a few other people i've asked think im perhaps being a little over cautious. even so i'm moving the downlight away from directly over the centre of the hob below.

thanks again
