I'm wanting to lower the height of the grass so it's level with the rest of the garden (pics attached)

The drain looks like it can just be lowered by removing a couple courses of bricks and for the fences I'll add higher gravel boards where soils removed

Is there anything I should be wary of before bringing in a digger? Or is it just a simple case of removing a lotttttt of earth?

We're wanting to extend next year over the drain area so the earth towards the house will need removing anyway eventually

You'll need to remove the topsoil and put it aside, then dig out and dispose of the subsoil, then put the topsoil back again. Otherwise you'll have trouble growing anything.
Personally I'd think twice if you have clay soil as it's a recipe for a waterlogged garden in winter, but it may not be an issue in your area.
The other thing is what to do with the soil, maybe you can get a grab lorry in to take it away, as it's very expensive if you use skips.

I just came here to find some old pics and thought I'd post some updates now I've finally finished the garden project, I don't think it turned out too bad considering I've never done anything like this before

I ended up building a decking area, barked play area, grassed area and then a patio for dining, etc

How far down did you dig, and how much soil did you have to dispose of?

Well done.
