This evening one of the push and fit joints (a straight joint) on one of our pipes that runs the hot water from the boiler to the hot water tank came loose.

Unsurprisingly, this led to a mountain of water pouring out until we got the stop cock off.

Prior to this, for about a week to 10 days, the hot water throughout the house was lukewarm / mildly warm, but never it's usual piping hot (apart from one day in this 10 day spell).

Is this (the water being lukewarm for 10 days followed by one of the joints bursting) linked? Or is the lukewarm water the sign of a deeper problem?

Got a plumber coming tomorrow to have a look and don't want to be fobbed off.

When was the joint fitted and by whom?

Probably a coincidence!

Joint fitted by a bloody cowboy builder that we are still regretting ever getting out.

What else could be causing the lukewarm water?

We've got a condensing boiler and a hot water storage tank in a cupboard in one of the bedrooms.

Plumber been out and fixed broken joint.

Having put the boiler back on (boiler in garage) we've ascertained the following, for the pipe that runs from the boiler to the hot water tank:-

1. Where this pipe is closest to the boiler ie above the utility room, the pipe feels piping hot when the boiler is on;

2. Where the pipe burst at one if the joints (in the kitchen, about 3 metres from the utility room), the pipe feels lukewarm.

Is there a blockage somewhere? Or something else wrong?

Sounds like pumps broken, water in boiler has boiler the heat have weakened the joint causing the burst.

Just guessing as cant see your system. Does your heating work?
